BERKELEY, California—June 14, 1989—Dantz Development Corporation announced today that Retrospect version 1.0 is now shipping. The exclusive U.S. distributor of Retrospect, Ingram Micro D, is making it available immediately to Macintosh retail outlets and mail order houses throughout the country.

Retrospect is the first true archiving application that will free up valuable hard disk space as well as provide comprehensive backup and disk management functions. Retrospect allows files to be moved or copied to a wide variety of media, including Macintosh Disks, DC 2000 tapes, removable disk cartridges, DC 600 tapes, optical cartridges, and file servers. Retrospect supports storage devices from more than thirty leading manufacturers. This device independence, along with a complete suite of verification, comparison and rebuilding tools provides a complete backup and archiving solution.
Retrospect can archive or backup files from any volume that appears on the Macintosh desktop and is fully compatible with AppleShare™ and TOPS™ networks. An Archive catalog, stored separately on the user’s hard disk, lets users reference their archived files without inserting the storage media, providing organization and immediate access to a virtually unlimited number of files. Other features include file compression, data encyrption, scripting, and a calendar for unattended operations.
